Who Will Benefit?

The community at large will benefit from the construction of the John B. Cary Elementary School Fully Accessible Playground.

The playground will serve children and parents of all abilities.

"Our son does not always enjoy going to the playground because he can not walk independently. The paths, accessible surfaces, and ramps included in this project mean children with limited mobility will no longer have to sit on the side and watch other kids play.”
—Scott Swanson, father to Ruben (uses walker for mobility)

“As a parent of a special needs child it is difficult to take your child to the local playground. The equipment is not designed for children who have difficulty with fine/gross motor skills, balance, and low muscle tone. The J. B. Cary Fully Accessible Playground will provide a safe place for children like mine to play and interact with others.”
—Alice Pettey, mother to Terry (Smith-Magenis Syndrome)

"A fully accessible playground is an environment where children of all abilities have the opportunity to develop their social and motor skills. It sends the message to ALL children that they belong and are a special part of their community just because of who they are, not because of what they are able to do."
—Jessica C. Ward, PT, PCS, MEd
