What is a Fully Accessible Playground?

Playground

A Fully Accessible Playground is a playground that is specially constructed to provide access to individuals of all abilities.

The proposed fully accessible playground will be located in the heart of Richmond's 5th District. It will enhance the existing playground John B. Cary Elementary School.

The creation of a fully accessible playground will promote integration, independence and inclusion of individuals with disabilities. It will also promote understanding and acceptance by individuals without disabilities by providing a place where everyone can fully participate.

The playground will provide accessibility by being constructed with ramps, accessible swings, solid surfaces and will be ADA compliant.

"Having a fully accessible playground - an area for all students to learn and play, will be an excellent addition to John B. Cary Elementary School and will be an additional attraction to this already active and thriving community."
